The Institute of Agricultural Economics (IAE) operates under the auspices of the Romanian Academy and has a tradition of almost a century in agricultural economic research in Romania. Its roots date back to 1927, with the establishment of the Agronomic Research Institute of Romania (ICAR), which included a Rural Economics Section. Over time, the institute evolved through several institutional forms, becoming a distinct scientific entity in 1967, and since 1990 it has been part of the “Costin C. Kirițescu” National Institute for Economic Research.
The IAE is dedicated to research in agricultural economics, public policies in the agri-food sector, and the sustainable development of rural areas. At present, its research programs focus on strategic priorities such as the transition to a green economy, the promotion of sustainable food systems, support for agricultural policies, and the analysis of resilience factors in regional agricultural systems.
Through its activity, the Institute contributes to the scientific substantiation of agricultural and rural policy decisions in Romania, adapting to the economic, social, and environmental challenges of the 21st century.
